Disappointed Groupon Malaysia Deal, Gonbei San @Starhill Gallery Lunch Buffet

Hello fellow readers,

I`m back. This time my post will be on my complain towards my unsatisfied purchase against Groupon deal that I bought 1 month ago. When it comes to purchasing restaurants/food deals with group-buying sites, I am very particular on the food / restaurant selection that they offer.

Usually, before I make a purchased, I would do some research first about the restaurant and the deal just to make sure that the deal I buy is really worth every penny that I spent.

They were offering Gonbei San Lunch Buffet Groupon.

So I went and consult my best friend, "GOOGLE" and tadaa...
I found numerous good reviews about Gonbei San.

"Choices of meats cuts and seafood were abundant. Other ready prepared items were the old school sushis, cold soba, cawanmushi & miso soup.Other than the fresh cuts, most of the food were cooked to order. Fried items arrived at our table piping hot, crisp & devoid of excess oil. The grilled items were perfectly seasoned. Desserts are aplenty. Premium Baskin Robbins ice cream were of unlimited supply. I love Gonbei San for precisely all that. Traditional old age cuisine, with none of the overly-fusionized nonsense."- Mar 1, 2011. the Nomad Gourmand, Rebecca Saw

Then I checked out Openrice where you can find all sorts of food reviews and rating.

Since the comments and testimonials and pictures looks promising from the resources I searched, I have decided to give it a try!

Bought the Lunch Buffet Deal at Gonbei San, at Starhill Gallery for 2 pax .

And.. made reservation on the 8th of October 2012, Monday(no class for me, yay me).

No make up day. So I need the Forever Alone face here.

So I got in , table and tea was ok.
Until....
I walked to the food area and saw what they have there.
>.<
It was such a disappointment.

I mean if you compare my pictures below.
Left is my picture and Right is picture taken from groupon.
Its really different, in sense that the quality of sushi that they offer was not up to the standard from what I usually have.
Sushi Zanmai and Maiu is my favorite place for sushi and sashimis.
Those sushi served on the tray served on taste like those regular sushi that you can find it at Hypermarkets (TESCO, CARREFOUR).

If you look at the picture on the right, I was hoping I could eat the avocado maki and there was no avocado maki.

Basic sashimi were served, and there were oysters and mussels. Also there were NO UNAGI. -.-

Worst of all..
NO REFILLS FOR THEIR CAKES AND DESERTS.

Picture shown on Groupon Malaysia

In Reality.. It looks like this.
Actually there were several types of cakes around, such as blueberry cheesecakes, red velvet, some chocolates, and macaroons.  I thought they would refill them if the dessert was finish because I wanted to eat my main course first before I start picking for desert.

By the time I went over, which was 1.30pm, the desert area looks like this.
(Lunch Buffet starts at 12pm to 3pm)

My MACAROONS..
GONE!

so I decided to ask the manager, to refill or whether they have extra desserts coming in?
His answer was, no more refill.

The last and most misleading information of all.

The deal I bought for supposed to have Bottomless pits of BASKIN ROBBINS ICE CREAM.
Guess what they gave me at the end?

Does this look like Baskin Robbins to you?

If you read my previous post on the Ramadhan Food review at Tonka Bean, Impiana Hotel KL.
When they say they served Baskin Robbins, they do serve Baskin Robbins.

I felt cheated. To be honest, I bought this groupon is partly because of the Ice-cream and yet they no serve Baskin Robbins. This groupon is not worth RM55 at all.

Yes. OH GOD WHY?
Why did I bought this deal in the first place.

Conclusion.
The deal sucks. I was really unhappy about it.
Given RM55 for a Japanese lunch buffet is consider an average price for any Japanese buffet nowadays and considering that I bought this from groupon, thinking that I would get something better than ordinary since according to Groupon , Gonbei San 's normal buffet price is Rm102.10  ..
I was wrong.

Anyways...

Will I buy anything via Groupon again?
The answer is NO.

Will I go to Gonbei San again?
The answer is NO.

Reasons
  1.  Limited choice of food and beverages. They cut down on most selections from the normal buffet menu
  2. Pictures and descriptions mentioned on the Groupon deal does not match what is given on the lunch buffet when I went.
  3. The quality of food they serve and the price stated for the Groupon deal , I felt that the price is overpriced and they do not deserve it because there are many Japanese Lunch buffet are set at this price or lower and the food quality and choices 120% so much better from what I had in Gonbei San.
Sometimes, I understand that pictures shown are only for illustration purposes but if Gonbei San Lunch buffet do not plan to serve any of these foods, please do not put the pictures up. It will lead customers to disappointment only. Also for the price that I am paying for the deal and getting such little choice of selection, this deal is a total ripped off.

Total Damage: RM110.
Rm55 per pax.

I rarely trust these food vouchers unless it's a well known F&B place. Some are good and some are really bad...

That was a nice review. On purchasing a restaurant voucher , the customer should be able to review the restaurant and make sure that it suits him/her.If the place is not interesting in terms of variety , then the customer will be losing the satisfaction from the vouchers. The above said experience is good one to share...

Dear Michelle,

I am an admin from a new site namely ModernBabe.net, a new lifestyle website in Malaysia.

I noticed that, there are not many portals in Malaysia that allow people to write about their online purchases let alone to do a review about their experiences.

Most of these writers are bloggers and they only write about it in their blogs.

I hope you don’t mind me putting up your articles and experiences in online shopping (there are a lot of other write ups too from other bloggers there) for the purpose of sharing. Don’t worry; I will give credit to your blog for the write up.
